Eastern Bhutan Tour (13 Days/12 Nights)

Day 1- Paro airport receive

Representatives of AYC tours and travels will receive you from the airport and the tour of Bhutan starts from Paro. Visit following places in Paro:

  • National Museum of Bhutan
  • Ringpong Dzong (Fortress)
  • Kichu Lhakhang
  • Evening Leisure time around Paro Main Street.

Day 2- Paro Tiger’s Nest hike (Taktshang)

Tigers nest is the most beautiful hike to the temple build on the face of rocky cliff and it is known for its architecture uniqueness which dates back to 17th century. The factors of scenic, photography, culture and hike can be experienced in this one day hike to tigers nest.

Day 3- Paro to Thimphu

Drive to Thimphu capital city of Bhutan (1 hour drive) and visit following places:

  • Memorial Chorten (Stupa)
  • Buddha Point
  • Takin reserve
  • School of 13 arts and crafts
  • Tashichhoedzong (fortress)
  • Evening leisure time around Thimphu main street.

Day 4- Thimphu sightseeing

From hotel drive to Cheri Base (40 minutes) north of Thimphu.

From the base start the hike towards Cheri Monastery built during 17th century by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel (Founder of Bhutan). Cheri monastery is now based as retreat center for monks after completion of Buddhist studies. Meditation in the temple can be arranged if our guest wants to meditate for few hours.

After lunch visit following places:

  • Centenary Farmers Market
  • Textile Museum

Day 5- Thimphu to Punakha

Check out from the hotel and drive to Punakha (3 hours) via Dochula Pass.

Sightseeing or tea break at Dochula with explicit view of 108 chortens and panoramic view high snow peaks of Bhutan, Dochula is pass between Thimphu and Punakha province in elevation of

3100 m above sea level.

Proceed towards Punakha Valley after Dochula Pass and after reaching Punakha visit following places:

  • Chimi Lhakhang (temple)
  • Punakha Dzong (fortress)
  • Suspension Bridge

Day 6- Punakha to Phobjikha

Check out from hotel and drive to Phobjikha valley (4 hours) and after reaching Phobjikha valley visit following places:

  • Gantey Goempa
  • Gantey Nature trail hike

During winter (November to January) Phobjikha valley is house for endangered bird Black necked cranes and are auspicious birds for the people living in Phobjikha valley. They fly from Tibetan Plateau to Phobjikha valley and flies back at the end January month.

Day 7- Phobjikha to Bumthang

Check out from Hotel and drive to Bumthang (8 to 9 hours), on the way visit following places in trongsa:

  • Trongsa Dzong (fortress)
  • Trongsa museum


Drive from Trongsa to Bumthang visit Yatha factory in Chumey valley of Bumthang. Yathra is a famous textile made in bumthang from the hair of Yak animal.

After reaching Bumthang check in hotel.

Day 8 – Bumthang sightseing

One day sightseeing in Bumthang visit following places:

  • Mebhar Tsho (Burning lake)
  • Jambay Lhakhang
  • Kurjey Lhakhang
  • Tamshing Lhakhang (30 minutes hike from kurjey lhakhang to Tamshing lhakhang)

Day 9 – Bumthang to Mongar

*Breakfast in hotel*

After early breakfast drive to Mongar (7 to 8 hours).

En-route stop at Ura valley, a best example of the clustered village for photographs. Cross Thrumsingla Pass (3780m). You can expect to see snow and yaks with its herders on the road sides.

Hot Packed lunch will be served as there are no good restaurants on the way. Make short stops on the way to stretch your legs, visit restrooms and for photographs.

You may find some people extracting lemon grass oil if you are travelling on right season.

Upon reaching monger, check-in to the hotel.

Dinner and Overnight in hotel at Mongar.


Day 10 – Mongar to Trashigang

*Breakfast in hotel*

Check out from hotel and visit Mongar Dzong. You are already in eastern part of the country.

Drive to Trashigang the largest district in the country.

After reaching Trashigang visit following places:

  • Trashigang Dzong (fortress)
  • Walk around the town to get to know more about that district.

Evening check-into the hotel. Dinner and overnight in the Hotel, Trashigang


Day 11 – Trashigang sightseeing

Today you will be taken to another district called Trashiyangtse. It will take you approx 3 hrs driving distance.

After reaching Trashiyangtse visit following places:

  • En-route visit Gom Kora temple.
  • Upon reaching Trashiyangtse visit the Chorten kora Stupa, where it is believed that a princess from Arunachal Pradesh (Northern part of India) has been buried inside the stupa.

Hot packed lunch will be served and after lunch retrace yourself back to Trashigang.

Day 12 – Trashigang sightseeing

Check out from the hotel and drive to Samdrup Jongkhar (6 to 7 hours).

It’s a drive to the south east of the country Samdrup Jongkhar.

En-route stop at the Blind school in Khaling and interract with the blind students in the school.

Hot packed lunch will be served on the way.

Make short stops on the way for photographs and restrooms.

Upon reaching Samdrup jongkhar check-in to the hotel.

Day 13 – Trashigang sightseeing

After early breakfast go to the immigration office and get your exit seal on your passport. Bid farewell to our Bhutanese representatives and meet your new Indian guide and driver.

Your India Guide will do all your necessary immigration formalities once you enter India.
